BIO
Pete The Greek Letsos, born on December 31, 1979, in Chicago, USA, discovered Jiu-Jitsu after being inspired by early UFC events and Royce Gracie's dominance. He began training at Carlson Gracie Junior's academy in 1996/97, which had a rich lineage in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
In 2002, Letsos traveled to Brazil to train at the headquarters but arrived during a challenging period when many black belts had left to form Brazilian Top Team (BTT). He trained with BTT's MMA team, alongside notable fighters like Jorge "Navalhada" and Gesias "JZ" Cavalcante. During his time in Rio de Janeiro, he also had private lessons with Cassio Cardoso.
What was intended to be a three-week journey extended to four years, during which Letsos trained with some of the best competitors of the 1990s and 2000s, including the renowned Gracie Barra team. His guard passing skills earned him a place on the Gracie Barra Team at the Brazilian National Teams tournament when he was a purple belt in 2002.
Letsos faced financial challenges but continued his Jiu-Jitsu journey, living at Osvaldo Alves's gym and later staying with Andre Galvão in São Paulo while training with Terere at the "TT" academy.
He returned to Chicago, where he earned his brown belt from Carlson Gracie Jr. He also spent time training with world champion and MMA fighter BJ Penn in Hawaii. In 2006, Pete the Greek Letsos received his black belt from Carlson Junior, and a year later, he established his own academy called Rio Jiu Jitsu.
