Biography
Marcelo Cohen was born on December 12, 1983, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. As a child, he was full of energy, leading his parents to enroll him in judo at age 9. After many years in judo, Marcelo sought a more challenging and self-defense-oriented martial art, leading him to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu during his teenage years. He began training at the renowned Carlson Gracie Academy in Rio de Janeiro under the guidance of Marcelo Saporito.
In 2004, Marcelo moved to Jupiter, Florida, USA, where he continued his training at the famous martial arts center 'The Armory' alongside notable fighters such as Kurt Pellegrino and Eduardo Guedes. He maintained strong ties with his mentor, Saporito, in Rio de Janeiro. Marcelo's dedication to his training was rewarded on his 29th birthday in December 2012, when he earned his black belt.
Marcelo later took on the role of head coach at The Armory, following in the footsteps of esteemed instructors like Rodrigo Cavaca, Marcus Almeida 'Buchecha', and Raphael Chaves. His exceptional skills as an instructor have been widely recognized, with Jiu-Jitsu Magazine featuring his work in 2015.
